Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
By Tom Stoppard
Cast includes: Students from the Extended Diploma in Acting at Colchester Institute
Following the success of Men at Arms last year, students from the Extended Diploma in Acting at Colchester Institute present: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is a funny and dark play by Tom Stoppard. It follows two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet: the courtiers Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The action of the play is the bits we don’t see on stage in Hamlet where the hapless pair try to grasp what they need to do to gain some control over the course of events – difficult when you are in a play! They must fulfill the demands of the King and Queen of Denmark to cheer Hamlet up and find out what is worrying him but struggle comically to make any impression on the inevitable progress of the plot of Hamlet.
