Tiverton Castle

Originally from 1106, building periods from C14 to modern are visible. Home to medieval Earls of Devon and Princess Katherine Plantagenet (daughter of Edward IV), it was besieged by Roundhead, Sir Thomas Fairfax, in 1645 and fell to him. Fine collection of Civil War arms and armour which can be tried on.

Tour 2-21/2 hours, £14 including Devon cream tea and cakes. Accommodation.
