A funny and touching tale about a day and night in the life of the extraordinary residents of Llareggub (read it backwards!), an imaginary small Welsh fishing village.
One spring day a host of delightful yet peculiar characters awaken, go about their daily tasks, gossip and daydream, but as night falls they dream of a past that might have been and a future that may hold hope.
Polly Garter with her numerous children by numerous fathers, dreams of Willie, a very small man, who was the love of her life. Captain Cat, the blind bell-ringer, dreams of all the sailors lost at sea. Mr Pugh dreams of poisoning his wife, and Nogood Boyo dreams of Geishas; “I want to be good boyo but nobody’ll let me!”.
Under Milk Wood, with its crackling dialogue and lyrical prose, is hailed by many as a true masterpiece.
