Wanted: local residents, traders, business men, students
If you are aged over 16 you are invited to join professional actors and artists this summer to uncover the darker hidden secrets behind Colchester’s glorious past for an exciting new artistic challenge.
New recruits will form the basis of either a Community Acting Company, a Movement Group for a new film or a Community Choir.
Recruitment for the film Movement Group is taking place now, with weekly sessions led by Mercury Theatre Practitioner, Rebecca Hall. The workshops will take place every Monday evening between 8pm and 10pm from Monday 8 June until 13th July when the film is due to be shot. The film will be made up of a series of repeated, stylised movements which will be developed through the series of workshops. If you are interested in joining this group and attending these free workshops please contact Elaine Leppard Community & Education Co-Coordinator on 01206 245503 or e-mail elainel@mercurytheatre.co.uk
Places are still available to join the Mercury’s Adult Theatre Workshop who will be holding weekly sessions working on site specific theatre and the skills needed to work in a large space outside of a traditional theatre. The workshops will take place every Tuesday night from 9 June until Tues 14 July between 8pm and 10pm. The total cost of these workshops is £30. At the end of the course in July an informal workshop audition will recruit the Community Acting Company who will then work alongside the Mercury’s professional ensemble and be part of the cast for our autumn site specific production. Those selected for the Community acting Company will need to commit to working at least two evenings a week from Monday 7 September and Saturday 10th October plus one Sunday (date to be confirmed).
On Saturdays 11th & 18th July Composer and Musician Jules Evans will be holding two taster days prior to forming a Community Choir. If you have ever fancied joining a choir but never quite got round to it; or maybe you used to be a member and have taken a break, these two workshops will provide an exciting and interesting opportunity to have a go. The Community Choir will perform later in the year as part of a site specific performance with the Mercury Theatre Company.
If you are interested in taking part in any of these activities and are aged 16 or over, please contact Elaine Leppard, Community & Education Co-ordinator at the Mercury Theatre by emailing elainel@mercurytheatre.co.uk or by phoning 01206 245503.
Spaces are limited in all groups, so please register quickly to avoid disappointment.
