Assisted performance feedback groups needed
23 Sep 2009
In the coming months the Mercury Theatre is inviting patrons who have attended any of their Captioned or Audio Described performances, or anyone who has an interest in making theatre accessible for Blind, partially sighted, Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing people, to come and have a chat and tell us what they think of our current service.
The first feedback session will take place on Monday 26th October at 2pm for Captioned performances. This will take place in the theatre bar.
A Speech to Text Reporter will be present alongside Deepa Shastri, Audience Liaison Officer for See a Voice, as well as Nicola Wood the Mercury Theatre Access Officer.
Captioned performances convert the spoken word, songs and sound effects into text, which appear on a caption unit on the stage, like TV and film subtitles.
On Thursday 19 November at 5pm patrons are invited to feedback their thoughts and offer suggestions on the Mercury Theatre Audio Described performances. An Audio Describer presents live commentary of all the action as it unfolds and is described via personal headphones. This feedback session is followed by a touch tour and audio described performance of the next Mercury Theatre Company production, Nora – A Doll’s House.
This season, captioned performances will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 17 November for the Mercury Theatre Company production of Nora – A Dolls House and on Monday 14 December at 7.00pm for the annual traditional pantomime Cinderella. Audio Described performances are on Thursday 19 November 2009 at 7.30pm for Nora- a stage version of Henrik Ibsen’s A Dolls House by Ingmar Bergman and on Saturday 9 January 2010 at 2.00pm for Cinderella.
If you have suggestions and feedback we want to hear from you, in order that we can improve and hopefully increase attendance at our assisted shows.
Further information on each production can be found on the production pages of this website. Tickets for these performances, for disabled customers and their companions, cost just £6.00 and are available from the Box Office on 01206 573948.
