Company actors and what they are up to
4 Aug 2008
Popular MTC actor Shuna Snow, who was seen at the Mercury playing Clytemnestra in IPH… has just taken part in the Hotbed Festival in Cambridge. Hotbed 2008 offers 13 World Premieres of short plays by nationally regarded playwrights alongside work from first-time writers. Plus workshops, readings and works in progress all in Cambridge for ten exciting, innovative days of theatre. Shuna will be returning to the Mercury to lead the Annual Summer School from 29 July to 8 August.
Dale Superville, who first joined the company back in 2002 as Idle Jack and has continued to delight Colchester audiences ever since, is currently performing at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre as Bottom in A MidSummer Nights Dream and Peter in Romeo and Juliet.
Martin Parr (Young Marlowe in She Stoops to Conquer) will start work on Monday 28 July with Alan Ayckbourn at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough. Martin will play Tony in Women in Mind from 4 Sep – 4 Oct which Ackbourn wrote back in 1985. This will be Ackbourn’s penultimate play as Artistic Director for the Stephen Joseph Theatre, although they will have first refusal on any plays he decides to write! Martin is “chuffed to bits and very excited.”
Marshall Griffin, who has been working on the Mercury School Residency scheme and was last seen on the Mercury stage in Coriolanus is about to work with the country’s leading movement theatre company Frantic Assembly on their take of Shakespeare’s most brutal and gripping thriller-tragedy of paranoia, jealousy, sex and murder… Othello.
Behind the scenes we have a host of creative’s who freelance at the Mercury. One of them sound designer and engineer, Marcus Christensen, who is now based in Colchester but works all over the country (he last produced the sound for IPH… and TWO), has just spent the last two and a half weeks in Bath as Associate Sound on Sir Peter Hall’s season at the Theatre Royal, which will then transfer to The Rose Theatre at Kingston. Marcus has also been busy as Associate Sound on Pygmalion which is currently at the Old Vic (and doing very well thank you!!) Associate Sound is basically when you do the work as the Sound Designer is not available to be there!!
