Cindy Beale Caught in an Another Act of Deception

10 Mar 2009

The Mercury Theatre today announced that former EastEnders star Michelle Collins, best known for her conniving TV character Cindy Beale, has been cast in the star role for a gripping new play at the Mercury Theatre: Deceptions, by acclaimed writer Paul Wheeler, which will premier at the Mercury Theatre from Wednesday 10 to Saturday 20 June before embarking on a national tour.

Michelle joined the cast of EastEnders as Cindy in 1988. In three spells on the show, her character endured a rocky marriage to Ian Beale, and had affairs with his two half-brothers, Simon and David Wicks. Since quitting Albert Square in 1998, Michelle's career has gone from strength to strength with leading roles in dramas such as Real Women, Sunburn, Daylight Robbery and Two-thousand Acres of Sky.

Alongside Michelle in Deceptions will be Coronation Street star Rupert Hill who’s character Jamie Baldwin made a speedy exit just last week. Rupert has also appeared in EastEnders, Brookside and Inspector Morse.
Deceptions is a Mercury Theatre co-production with Ian Fricker Productions, the team that brought such high quality drama as A Song at Twilight, Brief Lives, Visiting Mr Green and The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Tickets priced from £9.50 are available now at the Mercury Box Office on 01206 573948 or book on-line at www.mercurytheatre.co.uk
