Allow extra time to get to the Mercury Theatre on Thursday 7 June
Mercury Theatre customers should allow extra time when travelling to the theatre on Thursday 7 June.
Despite some town centre road closures to facilitate an internationally recognised event, the town centre is open for business.
Customers travelling to the theatre by car for the 2pm and 7.30pm performances of Dancing at Lughnasa are advised to park in St Mary’s car park on Balkerne Hill and use the footbridge to get to the theatre.
Customers picking up/dropping off and those with a Blue Badge can access the theatre by travelling up North Hill and turning right down Balkerne Passage.

The Halfords Tour Series cycle race is coming to Colchester for a third straight year with Britain’s top professional cyclists once again tackling the testing 1.6 kilometre town centre circuit. A whole afternoon of cycling festival activities are again planned for Castle Park to complement the elite race in the early evening, building on the success of 2011 when Colchester was named the winner of The Halfords Tour Series Pride Awards, by series sponsors Halfords. An estimated 15,000 people came to Colchester to watch the evening race last year, and Colchester’s hosting of this world-class event was showcased on ITV4 with coverage reaching an estimated 400,000 people.
