David Copperfield *2008*
by Charles Dickens. Adapted by Giles Havergal

Director Giles Havergal | Designer Adam Wiltshire

Featuring many of Dickens’ famous characters from the impecunious Mr Micawber, the good hearted Peggotty, the ever-so ’umble Uriah Heep to the egotistic and charming Steerforth, David Copperfield captures the brightness, magic and terror of the world as seen through the eyes of a child.
Full of vigour and animation, from seaside Yarmouth to London and beyond, we follow the rise and fall of young David’s adventures as he grows up through childish innocence, delight and despair surviving whatever life throws at him.
This new production is adapted and directed by award-winning theatre and opera director Giles Havergal who spent 33 years as director of the legendary Citizens’ Theatre Glasgow, adapted and directed the Olivier Award-winning Travels With My Aunt (Glasgow Citizens', West End and off-Broadway), and operas for Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North and the Opera Theatre of St Louis.
