Trelawny of the “Wells” by Arthur Wing Pinero, Directed by Miranda Bell
Thu 28 & Sat 30 Aug 08
Meet the eccentric, warm-hearted, ‘Wells’ Theatre Company, including Tom the struggling young actor and writer, Gus the comedian with his terrible jokes, the larger-than-life Telfers, Imogen the glamorous visiting celebrity, and Rose Trelawny the beautiful young star of the company. Rose is leaving to move in with her fiancé’s aristocratic family, but can she survive being caged in this cold new world? While Rose struggles to hold on to her identity, Imogen and Tom fight to get his ground-breaking new play put on. Pinero’s sparkling period comedy is both funny and moving as it explores love, success, heartbreak and the power of money in the two very different worlds of theatre and the wealthy aristocracy.
