BOOKING INFORMATION

The Mercury Theatre is currently undergoing an exciting redevelopment project, and is currently closed to the public.

During this time, tickets for our Autumn/Winter 2019 off-site season, Mercury at Abbey Field, can be purchased online, over the phone, or from our temporary Box Office venue, Mercury Tickets.

Mercury Tickets is located at number 18 Red Lion Yard, Colchester, CO1 1DX.

(closed for lunch on Saturdays).

Please inform us when booking if you require a wheelchair space, will be bringing an assistance dog with you to the show or will be using our Assisted Listening System (for hearing enhancement for people with or without hearing aids) during the show.

We do offer disability concessions. These vary from show to show, so please call Mercury Tickets on 01206 573948 or check our website when booking.

Children under the age of 18yrs old must be accompanied by an adult.

Ear Plugs can be picked up free of charge prior to the start of the show.

Our Customer Experience team have received basic training in:

  • BSL sign language
  • Autism awareness
  • Dementia awareness
  • Access awareness training

WHEELCHAIR USERS

Mercury at Abbey Field can accommodate up to 6 users in the main auditorium space. Please state that you require a wheelchair space when booking.

If you require a seat transfer, please speak to the Customer Experience Team who will be happy to arrange this for you.

Our friendly staff can also provide refreshments for you to purchase at the interval at your seat.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

This is available to book in advance from the Mercury Tickets.

Limited accessible parking is available at Mercury at Abbey Field, which operates on a first come, first served basis and must be booked in advance.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

We welcome Assistance Dogs at all performances, please inform us when booking.

Your dog can come into the auditorium with you, or be well looked after by our Customer Experience Team. Please inform us at the time of booking.

ASSISTED LISTENING SYSTEM

An assisted listening system is available for all Mercury at Abbey Field performances.

Our system is suitable for use with or without a hearing aid through our specialised equipment.

This can be booked online, over the phone or in person at Mercury Tickets free of charge.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION

DO YOU FIND IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ACTION?

Audio Description is live commentary on the visual elements of a production. Receivers and headsets for hearing enhancement and audio description services need to be booked in advance when purchasing your tickets. Please contact us for further information.

Touch Tours:

The free tour will take you onto the set of one of our shows. During the tour, the audio describer will guide you through the important costumes, set and props used during the performance.

Please mention if you would like to attend the touch tour when booking your tickets for the Audio Described performance.

Touch Tours must be booked in advance.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY RELAXED PERFORMANCES

Dementia Friendly Relaxed Performances are specifically designed to welcome people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, learning disability, sensory and communication disorders and Dementia into theatres to give those who otherwise might feel excluded, the chance to experience live theatre. Ear Plugs can be picked up free of charge from the Foyer prior to the show.

SOCIAL STORIES

Our social stories give you an idea of what it will be like to visit Mercury at Abbey Field. They show you what the venue looks like, and what you might see when you come in during your visit.

Where is the accessible toilet?

The accessible toilet is located on floor level and clearly signposted.

How can I request to use the Assisted Listening System and do I need to pay?

Does your box office (Mercury Tickets) have induction loop?

Yes, we have a portable loop system on the counter that can be used with your hearing aid using the T setting. Please inform the staff that you wish to use the loop system.

I’m a wheelchair user, where is the best place to sit/ book my seat?

For customers using wheelchairs, we provide wheelchair spaces, with accompanying seating for a carer or companion.

It is possible to book wheelchair spaces and companion seats online. We’ll need to enable this facility on your account – call us on 01206 573948 to set this up. Please note there may be some circumstances where it is best to call our friendly Customer Experience team:

  • If you need to book additional seats for friends/family close to the wheelchair user
  • If you are booking more than one wheelchair user space and therefore require more than one companion/carer seat
  • If you want to book a companion/carer seat for more than one show

How easy is it to get into the auditorium? 

Please arrive at the theatre in plenty of time as the foyer can get busy just before a show. Our friendly staff will be on hand to offer assistance.

Do you have accessible parking?

Are there discounts for companions?

If you need to have a companion with you to enable you to visit us we will also discount their ticket to the Access price.

Is the bar suitable for pushchairs/babies?

Yes, we are a family friendly building. We have baby changing facilities in the accessible toilet.
