This performance will take place in Corporal Budd VC Gymnasium, Berechurch Road, Colchester, and will be preceded by a short dance piece by a group of young Colchester performers.

A thrilling and humane portrait of army life telling the stories of five men and women serving on the front line.

Kay’s trademark intense physical and athletic dance theatre has earned five star reviews, a nomination for Best Modern Choreography in the National Dance Awards and topped the Best Dance of 2015 charts in The Observer, The Guardian and The Independent.

Deeply realistic, stark and thrilling, 5 SOLDIERS offers no moral stance on war, but instead questions what it is that we ask of our soldiers and explores how the human body remains essential to war, even in the 21st century.

“A very moving experience. I wasn’t expecting it to have that sort of effect on me. A clever and evocative representation of combat presented in a medium that I never thought it could be before” General Sir Nick Parker, former Commander of the British Land Forces

Performances will be followed by a post-show discussion with the company and local military representation. The Saturday performance will not only be preceded by a short dance work made by local community members in response to 5 SOLDIERS, choreographed by Charlotte Haddon, but will also feature a dance work inspired by the experiences of living in a military town, by professional dance group Flux.

Presented by the Athena Contemporary Dance Trust. Originally commissioned by DanceXchange. Funded by the Chancellor using LIBOR funds, Arts Council England, The Army, Hull City of Culture 2017 and The Rayne Foundation.

This production takes place at the Corporal Budd VC Gymnasium, on Berechurch Road. Therefore we are unfortunately unable to offer restaurant options for this show.
