Annual Colchester Lecture – General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL
The Law, Morality and Armed Conflict
An examination of the justification of armed intervention in the 21st century in the light of recent experiences in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan
We are very excited to announce the return of the much loved civic event – the Colchester Lecture! This returning event, run with support from title sponsor Birkett Long Solicitors, will invite nationally recognised speakers to the Mercury Theatre to engage local audience with relevant and current topics.
This February we are fortunate to be welcoming General the Lord Richard Dannatt. A soldier for forty years, Richard Dannatt concluded his military career as Chief of the General Staff – the professional head of the British Army. Since retiring from active duty in 2009, he was Constable of the Tower of London until July 2016, became an independent member of the House of Lords in 2011 and holds the position of President of Help For Heroes. Listen to him as he examines the morality of war, focusing on recent conflicts and using his expertise to study all angles.
There will be an additional offer of a post-show book signing for both of Lord Dannatt’s titles ‘Leading from the Front’ and his recent ‘Boots on the Ground – Britain and her Army since 1945’, with 50% of proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
