Would YOU read your Teenage Diary to a live audience?

Queer Diary is the night where queers share REAL teenage diaries, plus long-lost love-letters, fabulous fan-fiction, terrible tumblr posts, and the odd bit of cringey poetry.

We can’t promise to reunite you with your first crush, but we do aim to reignite that rush of adrenaline you got when they first noticed you!

Up for sharing something from your youth? Our mic is open. Get in touch here: queerdiary.org.uk/take-part.

This follows on from the Hasbian show in our Studio on Thu 23 Apr, 7pm.

FAQs

Who can take part?

Adults of all LGBTQIA+ identities are welcome to share something from their youth on the mic at Queer Diary! You don’t have to be a performer – many readers have never done anything like this before!

What can I share?

  • QUEER – LGBTQIA+ people on stage. Your material doesn’t have to be ‘queer themed’ – lots of us didn’t know we were back then. We’ve had people read about favourite TV shows, a school trip, and even a ghost story!
  • TEENAGE – Anything from your coming-of-age era (usually teens, but can be younger/older – whatever “coming-of-age” means to you!)
  • DIARIES? Yes, but not only diaries! We also welcome poetry, fanfiction or short stories, homework, old online posts, letters, messages – whatever you wrote back then!

Why would I do it?

It’s fun! Queer Diary is a friendly, supportive, joyful bonding experience.

Beth (Queer Diary host & performer of Hasbian) created this event for LGBTQIA+ people to share our memories in a community space.

Past readers said: “A joy to be a part of”, “So affirming” and “You’ll realise you weren’t as weird as you thought!”.

How does it work?

Readers need to sign up in advance to reserve a spot on the mic. Sign up with our short form: queerdiary.org.uk/take-part. Beth will get in touch to chat about the night and book you a spot on the mic! If the form is not accessible to you, email [email protected].

Can I just join the audience?

YES, Queer Diary needs an audience! You do NOT need to share anything to attend. Come along to cheer folks reading on the mic, and enjoy the throwback playlist between readings.
