Martin Newell Over the Kitchen Table
A year after his sell-out Mercury debut last summer, Martin Newell returns for a single performance of songs, poems and frank admissions.
Newell began his career as a teenage glam-rocker in Colchester in the early 1970s. Forty albums and a dozen volumes of poetry later – one boasting a copious foreword by Professor Germaine Greer – Newell is the darling of the Brooklyn hipster set and has an international cult following for his unusual pop songs made under the name Cleaners from Venus.
Equally revered for his literary career and once boasting the title of being the country’s most published living poet, the Wildman of Wivenhoe is delighted to be returning to home turf.
If you only see one single-night performance at the Mercury this summer, we implore you to make it this one.
