Michael Morpurgo’s Farm Boy
A Made in Colchester production
Farm Boy is Michael Morpurgo’s touching sequel to War Horse.
An old green tractor rests in the corner of a Devon farmyard. But beneath the rust and dust lies a story which brings together two generations, reaching back to The Great War and marking the change from the old world to the new.
Each summer, a young boy comes down from the city to live and play alongside his Grandpa, tending to the animals and dreaming of driving the tractor. Grandpa tells him stories of the country, and of the past – stories of the boy’s great-grandfather Albert and his love for his horse, Joey; a love that was tested in the battlefields of France.
When a deep secret is shared, it’s time for Grandpa and Grandson to make a new story – together. Love, patience and determination will win the day to reveal how the old tractor found its way onto the farm and changed all their lives forever.
This beautifully moving story looks at how things change, how we grow up and grow closer, and how our dreams may be nearer than we think.
Farm Boy is directed by C P Hallam, and follows the Mercury’s hugely successful 2015 tour of Not Now, Bernard and Other Monster Stories.
