Join two of Colchester’s most loved cultural organisations at one of the region’s most beautiful locations!
The Mercury Theatre and Roman River Music invite you to a fundraising Summer garden party at the stunning Tudor landmark Layer Marney Tower. Listen to professional and young emerging musicians, enjoy afternoon tea and drinks and take a trip up the tower to delight in the views of the Essex countryside.
With gates open from 2:30pm, be welcomed on arrival with either a glass of fizz or Pimms and make your way into the gardens of this stunning venue. Individual afternoon teas will be served and a cash bar available for you to enjoy music in the sun with your friends or family.
A raffle will be held along with some light hearted games, with the music expected to finish at approx. 6pm.
This event will be held in aid of both the Mercury Theatre Colchester’s Mercury Rising Campaign, and Roman River’s education and community engagement work.
The £9.6 million capital project will see the Mercury Theatre Colchester transformed into a modern, fully accessible venue for the local community to embrace performing arts and cultural practice. New rehearsal and studio spaces will be built, along with a brand new box office and front of house space to welcome new audiences into the venue. The new venue will reopen to the public in Summer 2020 and continue to be a celebrated cultural venue for Colchester and regional theatre.
Roman River Music:
Roman River Music’s work with children and young people, the local community and emerging talent aims to create as many opportunities as possible for individuals and community groups to interact with our professional musicians, to hear live music, be inspired, try an instrument, sing for themselves or improve their skills. Our opportunities involve over 1,000 young people every year and we believe music should be part of every child’s education. Research shows that involvement in music helps with maths and English and boosts self-confidence.
With special thanks to Layer Marney Tower for hosting this special event. More information on this stunning venue can be found here.
