Roman River Music – Imogen Cooper
Colchester-based charity Roman River Music presents one of the finest interpreters of classical and romantic repertoire.
Internationally-renowned for her virtuosity and lyricism, Imogen Cooper is a leading pianist of her generation, whose performances glow with an impeccably expressive nuance.
This performance will include the following pieces:
HAYDN Sonata in C major Hob XVI/50
BEETHOVEN Bagatelles op 119
ARNOLD SCHOENBERG Six little pieces Op 19
BEETHOVEN 33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli
Imogen has a widespread international career, appearing with the Berliner Philharmoniker, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Budapest Festival, NHK, Sydney and London Symphony Orchestras. Recital appearances have included Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, Singapore, Paris, Vienna, Prague and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.
As a supporter of new music, Imogen has premiered works at the Cheltenham International Festival and also collaborated in premieres with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. She is a committed chamber musician and performs regularly with Henning Kraggerud and Adrian Brendel. In Lieder she has a long collaboration with Wolfgang Holzmair and her solo recordings for Chandos feature music by Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner and Robert and Clara Schumann.
Imogen received a CBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2007 and an award from the RPS the following year. In 1997 she was awarded Honorary Membership of the RAM and in 1999 she was made a Doctor of Music at Exeter University. Imogen was the Humanitas Visiting Professor in Classical Music and Music Education at the University of Oxford for 2012-13.
In 2015 the Imogen Cooper Music Trust was founded to support young pianists at the cusp of their careers.
