Their brilliantly accessible musical theatre adaptations of six of Shakespeare’s classic plays remain one of the best ways for families, children and young people to engage with Shakespeare. Removing the language barrier, working in predominantly contemporary and understandable dialogue, blended with the famous sequences from the original text and framed in an enjoyable musical theatre format, S4K remains “the ideal introduction to Shakespeare”.
S4K’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
First staged to five-star critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival in the late 1990s, S4K’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, an easy-to-understand musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, has since toured extensively across the UK and internationally. Its 2007 debut in Dubai marked the start of its global journey, and the production remains a favourite in schools around the world.
This lively, funny and accessible musical retelling of William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy masterpiece follows the Duke of Athens as he prepares to marry the Queen of the Amazons. Meanwhile, six local tradesmen rehearse a play for the royal celebrations, four young lovers flee into the woods with marriage plans of their own, and the feuding Fairy King and Queen unleash chaos on the mortal world.
With the mischievous sprite, Puck, causing his own mayhem… what could possibly go wrong?
This production is the best way for all the family to get engaged with and understand Shakespeare!
