The Weir
A Made in Colchester production
Mercury Theatre Colchester and English Touring Theatre present The Weir.
Winner of the 1997 Olivier Award for Best New Play, Conor McPherson’s chilling modern classic opens at the Mercury Theatre this Autumn prior to embarking on a UK tour in this, its 20th Anniversary year.
In a small Irish town, the locals gather round the crackling fire of Brendan’s bar to pass the hours together, safe from the clutches of a dark night. Huddled away from the howling wind on the Knock, stories of local folklore start to unfold as quickly as the beer and whiskey flow. As the night thickens, so too the storytellers tunnel ever deeper into their own lives, and perhaps even the life beyond. But as the friends mine their memories of the past, darkly buried secrets being to re-emerge.
A shadowy tale delving into the corners of human experience, The Weir is a co-production with English Touring Theatre, winners of the 2016 UK Theatre Awards’ Best Touring Production accolade for their production of The Herbal Bed.
Directed by Adele Thomas (Knight of the Burning Pestle and The Oresteia – Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre).
Tickets are now available for the The Weir Touch Tour.
