Tilted presents Adrian Tchaikovsky in Session with Robin Ince
Adrian Tchaikovsky ‘Shards of Earth’
In session with Robin Ince
Following the publication of his brand-new book, Shards of Earth, Adrian Tchaikovsky, the Arthur C. Clarke award-winning author of Children of Time joins comedian and author Robin Ince in session to discuss his first book from the Final Architecture trilogy.
The war is over. Its heroes forgotten. Eighty years ago, Earth was destroyed by an alien enemy. These ‘Architects’ then simply disappeared, and Idris and his manmade enhanced humankind became obsolete. Now, Idris and his crew have something strange, abandoned in space. It’s clearly the work of the Architects. Hunted by gangsters, cults and governments, Idris and his crew race across the galaxy as they search for answers. For they now possess something of incalculable value, and many would kill to obtain it
In a unique twist on the author Q&A, we will watch as Adrian takes Robin on location to give an intimate insight into what inspires the fascinating and masterful worlds he creates. Their live discussion will delve into his extraordinary new space opera, with some of the book’s most riveting passages read aloud. This is an opportunity to witness a meeting of minds between ‘the break-out star of contemporary British SF’ (Guardian) and the force behind one of the world’s most successful science radio shows.
There will also be an opportunity to ask all your questions about kinden, Bugworld and how he delicately balances the intricate worlds of magic and technology in his writing.
Adrian Tchaikovsky was born in Lincolnshire before heading off to Reading to study psychology and zoology. For reasons unclear even to himself he subsequently ended up in law and has worked as a legal executive in both Reading and Leeds, where he now lives with his wife and son. He’s the author of the critically acclaimed Shadows of the Apt series, the Echoes of the Fall trilogy, and The Doors of Eden. Children of Time was the winner of the 30th Anniversary Arthur C. Clarke Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. @aptshadow
Robin Ince is many things. A comedian, an author, a broadcaster and a populariser of scientific ideas. The Guardian once declared him a ‘becardiganed polymath’ which seems about right. He is probably best known as the co-host of the Sony Gold Award winning BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox. He also co-hosts the podcast Book Shambles with Josie Long, An Uncanny Hour and Science Shambles with Dr Helen Czerski, all three of which are a part of The Cosmic Shambles Network, which he co-created. His books include I’m a Joke and So Are You and The Bad Book Club, and he has edited and written short stories for two volumes of Dead Funny: Horror Stories by Comedians. As a stand up he has toured the world and won three Chortle Awards, the Time Out Outstanding Achievement Award and was nominated for the British Comedy Awards Best Live show. @RobinInce
