ASC Work Experience Case Study: James Bacon

Whilst in his final year at the Colchester Institute on their Learning for Living & Work course, James Bacon spent 9 months doing work experience with our box office and hospitality teams.

Over the duration of his placement, James learnt how to cash up the tills, work as an usher during matinee performances, use the booking systems and speak to customers. He also worked towards a Bronze Arts Award, a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification that accredits art form knowledge and leadership skills.

Post college, James had the skills, experience and confidence to apply for a permanent role in our Front of House Team – to which he is a very welcome addition!

Following this successful placement, the Mercury has been awarded funding from the Charles S French and Colne Housing fund to continue this activity, offering more work experience placements and an ASC youth theatre beginning in November 2016.
