Brick Signing Event takes place in the Mercury Workshop

Posted 18th Nov 19

For the past couple of years, the Mercury Theatre has offered supporters the chance to sponsor bricks that will become part of the exciting new theatre building! Gold level supporters were given the opportunity to come to the Mercury workshop and leave a personal signature on their bricks, which included names, dedications, memorials and quotes. These bricks will now go on to make up part of our new foyer wall for all of our future audiences to see!

This event was made possible by Phelans Construction who have been hard at work transforming our theatre building, for supplying the foyer wall bricks and allowing us access to what is a very busy building site! This event took place in the Mercury Workshop, which is the only part of the original building that is still functioning as usual, and guests also received the added bonus of getting a sneak peek at the sets and props that our talented workshop team have been developing for out 2019 pantomime Cinderella, as well as the latest plans and designs for areas of our new building.

It was wonderful having so many like-minded supporters of local theatre together to leave a lasting legacy on the bricks that will build the new foyer, which aims to welcome audiences for generations to come. We loved hearing stories of those that had been involved in the construction of the original building, as well as groups and individuals telling us what our theatre means to them or meant to those that the brick was dedicated to. Signing bricks also proved to be a very unique process and it’s safe to say everyone had a great time developing their art skills!

Check out our gallery of bricks and their proud signers below:

Sponsored a brick but was unable to attend? We will have the remaining bricks available at our new box office location ready for signing from Mon 18th Oct onwards. There’s no need to book, please just pop in and add your signature. Our shop is now located in Red Lion Yard, find out more on this here.

Want to get involved? Although this event has now taken place, it’s not too late to join our supporters above in adding your name to the foyer wall of the Mercury Theatre! Visit our support pages to learn more about Gold brick sponsorships here.
