Mercury Theatre Colchester launch May fundraising campaign for Mercury Rising project

  • Mercury Rising project sees major redevelopment to the theatre’s front of house and performance spaces
  • Mercury Rising campaign has so far raised £9.2m, leaving just under £500K left to raise
  • May Fundraising Month aims to raise £25K towards final goal

The Mercury Theatre Colchester is this month appealing to local people to support their Mercury Rising fundraising campaign to raise funds towards their Mercury Rising redevelopment project. The project, which is already underway, will see the venue become fully accessible, modernised and extended to give Colchester a true hub for creative and performing arts.

The theatre has so far raised an impressive £9.2m for these major redevelopment works and has just £500,000 left to raise. This May, in their final month in the venue in its current form, they are appealing to the local community to help them make ‘£25k this May’.

Their text to donate campaign offers an easy way for supporters to donate £5 towards the fundraiser, by texting MERCURY to 70085*. Mercury Theatre audience members are also invited to add a donation each time they book a ticket, and bucket collections will be held at the end of each show throughout May. Those wishing to donate in other ways can do so in person at the Box Office, over the phone, or online at www.mercurytheatre.co.uk/mercuryrising.

The final month in the building showcases the extensive programme of shows the theatre offers, with theatre, dance, music, comedy and children’s shows on sale now. The final event at the theatre before it closes for redevelopment will be a charity performance from the Rock Choir on Sun 26 May, where all proceeds will go towards Mercury Rising.

The newly refurbished and extended Mercury Theatre is due to reopen to the public in Autumn 2020. An exciting Autumn/Winter 2019 season will be presented at the Mercury Theatre’s temporary offsite location ‘Mercury at Abbey Field’ from September 2019 until January 2020.
