We are thrilled to announce our Autumn/Winter 2019 season!

This exciting season will take place our bespoke pop-up theatre venue, Mercury at Abbey Field, while our theatre building undergoes major redevelopment work as part of the Mercury Rising capital project.

Mercury at Abbey Field will house an impressive season of shows from Sep 2019 to Jan 2020, including family friendly theatre, big name comedians and toe-tapping music to boot.

This unique season opens with Made in Colchester production, Oliver! from Fri 27 Sep – Sat 12 Oct. Produced in association with Colchester Operatic Society, Oliver! will see the Mercury’s professional creatives work alongside amateur actors from the Colchester community. It will also be newly appointed Creative Director Ryan McBryde’s first production in his new role with the Mercury.

Families and fun loving grown-ups can ‘move it, move it’ down to the theatre tent for Madagascar the Musical from Wed 30 Oct – Sun 3 Nov, while ages 14+ can giggle the night away with the mischievous puppets of Avenue Q from Tue 5 – Sat 9 Nov.

Comedian Ross Noble kick starts the season’s comedy offering ahead of shows from TV regular Josh Widdicombe and Colchester favourites Pam Ayres and the Scummy Mummies.

Rock the night away and celebrate 60th Anniversary Tours with Joe Brown and Ronnie Scott’s All Stars; experience a glorious programme of classical hits with Roman River Presents Classical Favourites; celebrate Black History Month with the Power House Gospel Choir alongside a talk from Lawrence Walker; and get your groove on with talented tribute acts including A Celebration of Barry Manilow, Radio Ga Ga, Thank You For The Music, The Illegal Eagles and Whitney – Queen of the Night.

If you love a sing-along, head down to Sing-a-long-a The Greatest Showman and Sing-a-long-a Grease screenings, where fancy dress is encouraged and singing your heart out is essential!

The season will culminate with this year’s glittering Mercury pantomime, Cinderella. Starring Colchester panto favourites Antony Stuart-Hicks and Dale Superville as the Ugly Sisters, and set in the magical Abbey Field venue, Cinderella promises all the sparkle of Mercury Theatre panto, in an extra special setting.

Tickets go on Priority Sale (to Friends of the Theatre) on Thu 6 Jun at 10am. Tickets will go on General Sale on Thu 13 Jun at 10am. Tickets for Oliver! and Cinderella are already on sale to the public.

Book your tickets for this once in a lifetime season online, over the phone at 01206 573948, or in person at our new temporary town centre box office location, Mercury Tickets.
