Mercury Theatre statement in response to COVID-19

Message from Mercury website image

The health and wellbeing of our audiences, teams and community is always our priority, and we continue to follow the advice of the government and Public Health England in these unprecedented times.

Following yesterday’s government announcement regarding COVID-19, we are sorry to announce our upcoming production of Borders has now been cancelled, and our Mercury Tickets box office is now closed to the public. Our Youth Theatre and community outreach sessions have also been postponed during the spring months while we await further information.

We will be contacting all ticket holders directly over the next couple of days to discuss your current bookings. We will continue to do everything we can do support our artists, staff and community, many of whom are freelancers, during these uncertain times. As a charity, we rely on ticket sales and donations to deliver our work on stage and with our community. We therefore hope that when our friendly Customer Experience team contact you – if you feel able – you might consider donating the cost of your ticket, or any other amount, to the Mercury. This will allow us to use it where we need it the most!

We would like to thank you for your understanding and ongoing support during this time. If you have a current booking, our team will be in touch to process donations, credit returns or refunds. While we are very disappointed not to be bringing you Borders, we want to let you know that work is continuing on the main theatre refurbishment. We are also exploring ways to continue to engage with and support our local community.

Our phone lines will be very busy over the next couple of days while we endeavour to contact our bookers, however if you do have a query our Customer Experience team can be reached on 01206 573948 or email [email protected]. We appreciate your patience at this complex time.
