Workshop
This workshop is open to all. Whether you are an established performer, are in the early stages or your career or have no professional experience but are curious to find out more about a career in the creative industries, you are very welcome!
For the practical element of the workshop, participants will be sent a selection of scenes in advance and asked to prepare one scene of their choosing. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their scene as a self-recorded tape or to take part in a mock audition ‘live’ on the evening where you will work on the scene with Wayne in front of the other participants. Whether you submit a self-tape or take part in a live mock casting, you’ll receive feedback on your read on elements such as characterisation, camera technique and performance skills. Self-tapes will also be viewed by all participants during the workshop.
For the live mock auction, you don’t have to have learnt the lines, but please be as familiar as possible with them. You are welcome to bring a printed or digital copy of the scene with you.
There will also be a discussion and Q&A, where Wayne will talk in more depth on their casting process, with tips and advice on how to prepare for castings. The aim is to help demystify and explain the commercial business elements of the industry, which sit alongside the creative. We’ll also discuss the specifics of being based in the East of England and how to overcome some hurdles such as rural and coastal isolation, which can be barriers to a career in the creative industries.
This will be your opportunity to ask questions and you are encouraged to think about these questions in advance, write them down and bring them along with you!
This workshop adheres to the Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG) workshop guidelines. The guidelines can be viewed here: thecdg.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/WorkshopGuidelines.pdf.
