Show Bio

Have you ever wanted to write a play but didn’t think you were good enough? Are you someone who has written a play, but currently it’s sitting somewhere on your laptop, growing virtual dust?

If either of these apply to you, join Anne Odeke, Essex playwright and actor, to explore the four-year journey – yes, FOUR-YEAR journey – her play Princess Essex went on, from page to [Shakespeare’s Globe] stage.

And what a journey it’s been! Anne will be sharing the highs, the lows and all the in-betweens.

So join Anne for a night of making new friends and contacts, and feel free to ask ALL the questions you want to know about how you get your writing from page to stage.

Afterwards, head to the bar and meet like-minded people in the industry.

About the Facilitator

Anne Odeke (she/her) is a playwright and actor.

As a playwright, Anne loves to rewrite and question British history and enjoys giving a voice to those hidden from the history books.

Most recently, Anne wrote and performed the lead in Princess Essex at Shakespeare’s Globe – a play based on Princess Dinubolu, the first woman of colour to ever enter into a beauty pageant in the UK (1908). The play was most recently nominated in the WhatsOnStage Awards for ‘Best New Play’, and Anne was nominated for ‘Best Performer in a Play’ alongside David Tennant and Michael Sheen.

As an actor Anne has performed at the RSC, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Watermill, The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, The Watermill, The Birmingham Rep, Storyhouse, as well as many others.

She has also just finished filming for a new BBC comedy series called Babies.
