Colchester Operatic Society 2nd Edition( CO2) present Little Shop of Horrors.
Little Shop of Horrors came to life in the mid 1980’s as a parody of old comic horror movies. Seymour Krelborn our nerdy hero, and his colleague Audrey work at Mushnik’s flower shop in the neighbourhood referred to as ‘Skid Row’. Seymour finds a strange and interesting plant during a total eclipse which he names ‘Audrey II’. He tends it, and starts to feed it his own blood when he accidently cuts his finger not realising it’s an alien from outer space looking to take over the world.
Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s songs, composed in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, such as the title song, “Little Shop of Horrors” plus “Skid Row (Downtown)” and “Suddenly, Seymour”.
