Our second masterclass “DOING IT ALL; WRITING, DIRECTING, PRODUCING” will be run by award winning female-led theatre company, The Thelmas.
The Thelmas will explore what it means to be a small, independent touring theatre company. Proving that there is no big trade secret; it mostly involves a lot of hard work, determination and a vision of the kind of work you want to make.
Director Madelaine Moore and Playwright Guleraana Mir, will take you through how they did it, and aim to draw out some of the necessary skills needed to ‘do it all’ and make it work for you.
No experience needed.
Spaces are FREE but limited, so must be booked in advance.
There will be a signer for our D/deaf customers.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Thelmas is a new writing company, led by director, Madelaine Moore and playwright, Guleraana Mir. At the heart of their work is the idea that female-led work should exist on its own merits as artistically excellent theatre, rather than be seen as somehow niche. They are passionate about promoting stories which disrupt traditional female narratives and are committed to telling intersectional stories that are rarely represented. They are explicitly feminist in their ideology and yet confound the title of ‘Feminist Theatre’, as exemplified by their work.
Since their formation in 2014, The Thelmas have built themselves a place on the theatre scene as a dynamic, fast-growing company creating work which fills the gap between the political and the commercial. Their production of ‘Coconut’ by Guleraana Mir, received a London run at Ovalhouse in 2018 followed by a national tour. Their 2018 Edinburgh fringe “smash hit”, ‘Ladykiller’ by Madeline Gould went on to win the VAULT Pleasance award in 2019. ‘ Santi & Naz’ by Guleraana Mir & Afshan D’souza-Lodhi won an Origins award at this year’s VAULT Festival in London, and their second production of the festival ‘NOTCH’ by Danaja Wass won critical and public acclaim for its complex and haunting production and script.
The Thelmas are currently Associate Artists at Ovalhouse Theatre.
We continue to pay all of our practitioners during this unprecedented time, however these classes are completely free for you to attend.
