Mercury Youth Theatres have been using material from the Mercury Voices archives as a starting point to devise a short performance.
Tuesday 11-13 Youth Theatre take you on a whistle stop tour of Colchester during World War Two; segueing into a lighter-hearted opening night of Farquhar’s The Recruiting Officer at the Mercury Theatre on May 10th May 1972. Using poetry, visual effects, ensemble work and music, this devised piece will show the theatre at two very different times in its history. The Show Must Go On shows the power that theatre has in ever-trying and changing times.
Mercury Voices is a two-year project to catalogue fascinating artefacts that tell the story of the history of the Mercury Theatre.
