SEND Move and Groove
It’s time to get movin’ and groovin’ with our new weekly dance sessions for young people with SEND aged 7-11.
Our weekly Move and Groove classes use dance, movement and music to develop physicality, self confidence and create some friends along the way, all for just £3* a session!
In an accessible and supportive environment, our young people will work on a particular theme or skill, ending the term with a showcase.
These sessions seek to:
- Boost confidence
- Develop a sense of body awareness
- Create a platform for creative expression
Our Move and Groove sessions are £3* a week (spaces are purchased on a termly basis) and the activity is made possible thanks to funding from Essex Short Breaks.
*Young people must have an Essex Short Breaks Passport Number. If you are currently not registered with Essex Short Breaks, please register here.
Please note: We are following the current Government roadmap for a safe re-opening and we will continue to take all measures to keep audiences and participants safe, in accordance with up-to-date Government guidelines. All Creative Engagement activity will maintain social distancing, and provide hand sanitisation stations. For further info on how we are keeping everyone safe please visit here.
Funded by Action for Children
All of our activities are accessible and inclusive and you are able to inform us of any additional requirements you have when booking or by becoming a member of our Access for All scheme here. Through funding from Essex Short Breaks, we will also have youth assistants on hand to support our MYC groups up to 18 years, plus additional SEND-specific activities such as Move and Groove and Party Nights.
Our work at the Mercury is always participant centred and participants are the focus of our decision making, delivery and outlook. Our activities are designed to develop the independence and confidence of the young people involved. Therefore, we would kindly ask that parents and carers are not present in the session so we can support your young person to flourish independently within a safe, creative environment. The only session this excludes is our SEND Party Nights (when a carer/parent ticket has been bought). We are unable to provide 1:1 support or specialist care for young people involved in our activities and we do understand that sometimes a parent/carer presence is unavoidable or required and so we are happy to discuss this on a case-by-case basis. Please do make us aware of this preference when booking. Thank you for your understanding and please do get in contact if you wish to discuss this further.
