Production Support

How can we help?

Here we can signpost you to our technical information if you are a visiting company or potential hirer, or to Mercury Makes if you need a set, costumes or some props made or available to hire.

If you have a show you’d like us to programme head to our producing/programming section where you’ll also find updates about our co-productions, associations and collaborations.

Got a question? Please contact our Production Manager Jeremy Naunton and his team on 01206 577006 or email [email protected]

Please bear in mind that the use of any tech equipment will need to be agreed by our Production and Technical teams and that we cannot guarantee that every item listed will be available at all times.

Workshop:

Alongside building all of the magnificent sets and large props for our in-house Mercury Productions, our workshop also love building for other people. We have made and refurbished sets for a stream of commercial producers and venues of various sizes. No job is too small and our Head of Construction, Phil Attwater, and Deputy Workshop Manager, Harriet Wheatley, will be delighted to put together a quote for you. Please contact them at [email protected]

Wardrobe:

For Corinna Vincent, our Wardrobe Manager, and Assistant Wardrobe Manager, Chantelle Cox, costumes are their passion. They make over a hundred wigs and costumes for our panto each year, before they even make a start on any of our other shows.

Do you need to hire costumes or have something special made? They will be delighted to help. Please email them on [email protected]

Props:

Our Company Stage Manager, Rebecca Samuels, and her team excel in making props. If you need something made or want to hire our props (including our fabulous pig puppet for a production of ‘Betty Blue Eyes) see if we can help. Please email [email protected]

If you have a show you’d like us to produce, programme or invite us to, then this is the email for you: [email protected]

We have four spaces/opportunities here at the Mercury, you might wish to consider which of these could work for you when getting in touch:

  • THEATRE – our 530-seat auditorium where we stage everything from one-night acts, to week long, full-scale visiting shows, to our very own Mercury Productions
  • STUDIO – our 96-seat black box studio, this space is the perfect home for a company looking to tour to the theatre, as well as hosting our season of Mercury Originals which features new East based stories told by East based writers.
  • CAFÉ/BAR – the café bar performance corner is a place for local talent to flourish. We will be offering weekly opportunities for local artists to use this stage to perform, as well as it being a hireable space.
  • LATES – everything from comedy nights to cabaret, from disco to drag, we are happy to host it after hours at the Mercury! Performed either in our Studio or Café Bar space.

We’re pleased to announce that our Young People’s Consortium, that saw the creation of the award winning production of Noughts and Crosses with Pilot Theatre, will resume in 2022.

Placements:

We’re thrilled that from January 2021 we will have a Stage One Regional Producer Placement joining us.

The Mercury previously hosted a Stage One placement in 2015 and Dilek Latif (now our Talent Development Producer) joined the Mercury on a 30 month Sustained Theatre Placement through Tamasha Theatre back in 2017.

We run specific auditions for our Mercury Productions/Originals, as well as holding periodic General auditions to meet local talent.

Please make any submissions for Mercury Productions to the casting director we are working with on that project. We will also issue breakdowns via Spotlight for each play as we begin casting and send it direct to a select number of agents.

For General Auditions, these are to help us at the Mercury widen our knowledge of actors we might work with in future productions. We will announce General Audition Days on our website and on social media channels. You can also sign up for our Artist Network Connects for more opportunities to be sent your way.

If you are interested in being considered for a General Audition, please send your CV and headshot, or link to your Spotlight profile, to [email protected]. We will keep these on file and contact you when there is an opportunity to audition. Please do not send CVs or invitations through the post.

We will always let you know the outcome of your audition via your agent, or directly if you are not represented, for either a Mercury Production or General Audition Day. This can take a few weeks depending on the process, but we aim to do this as soon as possible once a decision has been made.
