Calling all young people

Would you like to take part in a series of dance workshops and a performance with a professional dance company?

We are looking for young people aged between 12 and 25 years to form our exciting new community dance company for 5 SOLDIERS.  Participants should be creative, confident and open minded.  We welcome all abilities to take part in the project.

5 SOLDIERS is a moving, dramatic and unique work that looks at how the human body remains essential to war, even in the 21st century. It is a dance theatre work with five dancers, four male and one female, and is choreographed by Rosie Kay.  The piece was made following a period of field research when Rosie Kay joined The 4th Battalion The Rifles and was allowed to join in full battle exercises on Dartmoor and Salisbury Plain. She then visited the military rehabilitation centre, Headley Court, to see the effects of conflict and training on the soldiers’ bodies.

The commitment you make

Young people will need to be available for the full rehearsal and performance schedule.

There will be a taster session on Wednesday 6th September 2017, at 6.30pm. To sign up for the taster session please complete the form.  Signing up for the taster session does not guarantee a place in the community dance company.  Applicants will be selected following the taster session on Wednesday 6th September and informed by email of the result.

The rehearsals will take place on Wednesday 13th September 6:30pm-8:30pm,  Wednesday 20th September 6:30pm-8:30pm, Saturday 23rd September all day intensive, Wednesday 26th September 6:30pm-8:30pm and Wednesday 4th October 6:30pm-8:30pm and Saturday 7th October all day.  These sessions will take place at the Mercury Theatre.  Participants MUST be available for all sessions.

You will be invited to the Garrison Gym on Saturday 7th October, to join the Rosie Kay Dance Company for the day.  You will then perform, before the 5 Soldiers main performance on Saturday 7th October.

If you are selected to take part in this project, you will receive a complimentary ticket to watch the piece after your performance on Saturday 7th October, and you will receive a T-shirt.
