ABOUT MERCURY THEATRE COLCHESTER

The Mercury Theatre Colchester is the most active producing theatre in East Anglia, and is a vital centre of excellence in the East’s growing creative economy.

Under the Made in Colchester brand, the Mercury creates theatre which reaches audiences and generates critical attention regionally and nationally. The Mercury is a champion of regional arts, both as an active co-producer with other venues and companies and also touring our own productions to audiences across the UK.

ABOUT COLCHESTER INSTITUTE

The campus enjoyed a multi-million pound development completed in 2009 hosting music and performing arts, engineering, and construction.

It houses state-of-the-art facilities including workshops, dance studios and specialist suites. In September 2012 the new Higher Education Centre, a dedicated space for degree level students, was opened.

LEARN THE CRAFT AT A MULTIMILLION POUND CAMPUS, AND A PROFESSIONAL THEATRE VENUE

The Colchester Institute degrees in Technical Theatre have been revised and revamped to offer students practical hands-on learning in our professionally equipped 500-seat and 98-seat venues from their first year.

Throughout the course students will be introduced to a wide range of technical and management skills with the emphasis on employability and expanding knowledge across Technical Theatre.

Core modules currently include: lighting, sound, stage management, scenic construction, work placements and working on productions.

The degrees are validated by the University of Essex who are recognised across the world as a provider of high quality degrees. As a member of Colchester Institute you will have access to not only the main campus but the University of Essex campus and facilities, as well as the facilities of the Mercury Theatre.

The course requires attendance throughout the week, including evenings and weekends. The course is physically and mentally demanding and requires learners who are disciplined and committed.
