Country TV star Jules Hudson escapes from the country for an exclusive trip down memory lane in the town where he was born and bred, which inspired him toward a career in history and TV.

One of Colchester’s famous sons, Jules Hudson, is returning home to the town where he was born and grew up, after a lifetime spent away forging a career as one of the UK’s most versatile and popular TV presenters.

In an exclusive evening, Jules will chart his journey from local school boy to local archaeologist, digging up the town which inspired his love of the past, to now a passionate advocate for country life and rural affairs.

For nearly two decades Jules has been the leading face of the BBC’s hit rural property series Escape to the Country, and he also hosts This week on the Farm alongside the brilliant Helen Skelton for Channel 5, and previously Countryfile.

In what promises to be an intimate, revealing and often hilarious evening, Jules will share in the many twists and turns of a career which has taken him from Britain’s oldest recorded town to life in the home of ‘The only gay in the village’ in mid-wales, and then around the world, as first an archaeologist, then filmmaker, and now both writer, presenter, and occasional part-time farmer.

“To be honest, when I look back over the last 50 years of my life, you couldn’t make it up”, says Jules. “I’ve been extremely fortunate to have led a life that has always been colourful, and enriched with some of the most incredible friends and colleagues. Yet it all started in Colchester, and I’ll be forever proud of that”.
