Pericles
Evening Performances
“The finest Pericles in recent years” – Fringe Review
The UK premiere of Flute Theatre’s brand new production of Pericles, adapted by Kelly Hunter. Our unique event of double performances pushes the boundaries of what is possible for live Shakespeare performance in the 21st century, both in terms of audience reach and artistic vision.
Nine performers take all the roles and play music live on stage. Shakespeare’s lesser-known story of loss, storms and miraculous reunions, makes this beautiful romantic play a timely experience for all audiences in our modern world.
Flute Theatre premiered Pericles at Craiova International Shakespeare Festival, Romania in May 2022.
Running time: 1 hour 40mins
Join us for a Post-show talk on Fri 10 Mar, 8pm
We invite you to join us after the performance for an informal conversation between Kelly Hunter MBE, Artistic Director of Flute, and Dr Jamie A Ward, Lecturer at Goldsmiths University, on the science behind some of our work.
Scientists at Goldsmiths and at University College London have been studying the rich interactions between Flute theatre actors and autistic participants, exploring how new technologies – like wearable sensors – might be used to uncover, and to help us better understand, social behaviors in autism.
Matinee Performances for Autistic Individuals and their families
Flute Theatre create ground-breaking productions of Shakespeare for autistic individuals and their families using the Hunter Heartbeat Method created by Artistic Director Kelly Hunter.
Up to twelve autistic individuals become the participants for each performance, sitting with seven actors in a circle on our stage. Their families or carers can join us in the circle or sit just behind to watch. The actors invite the participants to experience Shakespeare’s story through highly enjoyable sensory games of fishermen, pirates and storms, which everyone plays together. Each performance is adapted to the specific needs of the participants, however complex they may be.
These performances will be on Fri 10 Mar, 5pm and Sat 11 Mar, 3pm. It’ll cost £5 per family for one Autistic individual of 8 years old+ and their siblings and families. A maximum of 12 families may attend each performance. To book Pericles for autistic individuals please call our box office on 01206 573948
Running time: 120 minutes (90 minutes performance + 30 min tea and biscuits with the cast)
