Sustainable Theatre Making – Relish Theatre Workshop
Want to improve the environmental sustainability of your work? This 3 in 1 workshop is for you!
Relish Theatre is a sustainably-produced new writing theatre company.
In these sessions you will explore different forms and periods of the creative process, with the goal to start thinking sustainably about your theatre-making. This information will be a useful tool when it comes to getting your work programmed, funded and created. This full-day workshop is ideal for theatre companies and independent theatre makers at any stage of career.
Sustainable Theatre Designing, led by Caitlin Mawhinney. In this workshop you will focus on:
- Sourcing and working with recycled, upcycled and reusable materials
- Exploring ethical messaging within your design
- Exploring ‘best practice’ for sustainable designing, including timelines, budgeting, and communication
Sustainable Theatre Producing, led by Morag Davies. In this workshop you will focus on:
- Introducing new budget lines that focus on sustainable practices
- Exploring sustainable marketing campaign models
- How to tackle the Investment Principle ‘Environmental Responsibility’ on an Arts Council England project grant application
Sustainable Theatre Directing, led by Rob Ellis. In this workshop you will focus on:
- Managing a sustainable rehearsal space
- Engaging a cast and creative team with sustainable practices
- Exploring different forms of ethical, environmental messaging within your work
Schedule:
Designing: 10am-12pm
Lunch break: 12-1pm
Producing: 1-2.30pm
Tea Break
Directing: 2:45-4.30pm

Relish Theatre is a sustainably-produced LGBTQ+ new writing theatre company in London, that focuses on producing work with early-career artists. Recent productions include: The tour of TIME AND TIDE (Co-produced with Norwich Theatres, sponsored by Griserve), and explored the collapse of local seaside business in the East of England, sustainable drag-cabaret ACID’S REIGN, that explores how the climate crisis is an LGBTQ+ crisis, and features pop songs as green anthems, under the supervision of Joe Beighton (SIX The Musical).
