A Catch Up with our Marketing and Engagement Intern

Emily has been working with us for a just over a month, so we thought we would find out how she’s been getting on…

What were you doing before the internship?

I graduated from the University of Essex in 2015 with a BA Drama and Literature and after a year of travelling I decided it was about time to see what I could do with my degree.

Why did you apply?

I am from Colchester so I have grown up visiting and even performing at the Mercury Theatre. In fact, there was a photo of me in the paper rolling around the Studio when I was about a year old. However, the appeal was not just sentimental. I have always known that there is a huge amount of work that goes into a show before it even makes it to the rehearsal room door but wanted to find out what kind of work that was.

What do you do?

The role of Marketing and Engagement Intern is a new position which is shared across two departments. I spend half of my week in the Marketing Office and the other half with the Creative Learning and Talent Department. The work I do in each department is so varied, which is perfect for an internship. One day I will be taking photographs of crazy drama games with the Youth Theatre and the next I will be writing a press release for an upcoming show! I have learnt so much already so I can’t wait to see how many skills I will have accumulated by the end of my time here.

Finally, as an intern, how many cups of tea have you had to make?

Not a single one!

Emily will be working with us until April and we will catch up with her again before she finishes.

Emily’s internship is a paid internship supported by Essex County Council and Creative & Cultural Skills
