Mercury Theatre partner with Colchester Foodbank as a donation point

The Mercury Theatre in Colchester in partnership with Colchester Foodbank have arranged a drop-off point in the theatre foyer (by the box office) for regular donations, and it ties-in nicely with the Colchester Commemorates event on the 26th March.

The Colchester Foodbank are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. They are the busiest Foodbank in the East of England, providing meals to feed over 15,000 local people in crisis a year, and in 2021 43% of Colchester Foodbank’s clients were children.

The Mercury Theatre are proud to offer up their theatre as a space for individuals to help others by coming in and donating non-perishable and in-date food to a foodbank. Particularly as the Mercury Theatre are already a hub of activity, from theatre bookers that come to the shows, to Creative Engagement participants, and those visiting the café bar. It is a great opportunity to give back to the community whilst engaging in all the activities they offer onsite.

Andrew Fordyce MBE, Chair of Colchester Foodbank said:
“Our local Foodbank charity team are delighted to partner with the excellent Mercury Theatre. Together we are making more of a difference, ensuring more local children can go to sleep well fed. We offer a big thank you to all those who contribute to help.”

Steve Mannix, Mercury Theatre Executive Director said:
“We’re so pleased to be able support the Colchester Foodbank as part of our Colchester Commemorates event. Helping others is now more important than ever, given the current state of affairs, and this is our way of supporting the local communities around us here at the Mercury Theatre”

The theatre building is open from 10am-late Tues-Sat,10am-7pm Sun, and closed on Mondays. Donations can be accepted between these times, ready for when Colchester Foodbank come to collect.
