The City centre has new vital lifesaving equipment available for staff and the public

The City centre has new vital lifesaving equipment available for staff and the public through Safer Streets Funding Colchester City Council and Our Colchester BID have secured and distributed 15 Emergency Bleed Kits.

The kits will be available for the public to use but will be held with custodians who have vital First Aid Qualifications. Inside the kits there is easy to follow instructions about how to control a bleed with a colour coded body map on how to use the equipment inside.

Our Colchester BID would like to say a special thanks for all the custodians who now hold a Bleed Kit.

Further kits will be made available to Night time venues in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, the Night Time Economy will continue to be supported by the excellent work of the SOS Bus.

Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst said: “It’s great to see the Safer Streets fund is being used in so many innovative ways. While we should all be able to go about our lives safely, sadly incidents happen where people are seriously injured and need urgent help.  The purchase and distribution of these fifteen Public Access Bleed Kits across Colchester will help provide vital first aid in an emergency, which is crucial when it comes to saving a life.”

Statement from Stacey Banner – Welfare Manager SOS Bus: “We are delighted and wholeheartedly support the Bleed Kit Initiative which has been led by OurColchester. Fortunately, knife crime is rare in our city, but we can never underestimate the importance of having one of these kits close by to support any catastrophic bleed and help save lives. The self-guide inside the pack means anyone can use these kits effectively and safely and we encourage the public to familiarise themselves and do their research into their life saving value.

Our City is lucky to have medical support on Friday and Saturday evenings within minutes of a call but these kits will give a patient valuable time for help to arrive 24 hours a day. We thank all those involved in the implementation of these kits to our beautiful community and continue to support and promote saving every life.”

Cllr Natalie Sommers, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “It’s important to recognise the value of proactive measures like this in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the community. By working together and taking steps to prepare for potential emergencies, we can all feel more secure and confident in our ability to respond effectively if something does happen.

These bleed kits will enhance safety measures in and around our busy city centre, providing access to effective and immediate medical assistance should any unexpected emergencies arise and help prevent the loss of life.

“It’s also encouraging to see that these efforts are being made collaboratively, with different organisations and stakeholders coming together to address a shared concern. This kind of cooperation and coordination is essential for building strong, resilient communities and is testament to the power of collective action and the positive impact it can have on people’s lives.”
