FREE zoom theatre event: a work in progress sharing of The Rainbow

THE RAINBOW: Weds 23rd June 7pm. A ‘live’ zoom sharing of a radical stage adaptation of this D.H. Lawrence novel. Originally published in 1915, the writing is extraordinarily ahead of its time as Lawrence explores the experiences of 3 generations of Polish women living in rural Nottinghamshire at the turn of the 20th Century, alongside themes of nationalism, urban versus agricultural landscape, female emancipation, sexuality, masculinity, mothering and religion to name a few!

Our adaptation will focus on the 3 women at the centre of this rich work through interweaving narration and dialogue, and will contribute to debate around decolonising narratives by addressing the significance of the women’s Polish heritage.

This is a work in progress event and the script has been developed with support from Arts Council Project Grants, The Mercury Theatre Colchester, Colchester Arts Centre, Kresy Family, Nina Finbow, the Centre of Migration Studies at Essex University and the sharing will be directed by Jo Newman, former associate director at Salisbury Playhouse.
