Pride Movie Nights: The Birdcage
Colchester Pride are thrilled to present a season of queer cinema, bringing classic LGBTQ+ movies back to the big screen every month!
Curated by the committee, these screenings will feature cult classics and modern must-sees that represent or resonate with the whole of our wonderful community and, if that weren’t enough, profits go to supporting Colchester Pride’s main event and our countless other community events.

The Birdcage
Comedy (15), 119 mins
Middle-aged, flamboyant gay couple Armand and Albert live in an eclectic community in South Beach, Florida, and have a son Val, who is the result of a drunken one-night fling.
When Val announces his engagement to Barbara, the daughter of a right-wing U.S. senator, he wants to bring his fiancée and her ultra-conservative parents’ home to meet his family for the first time.
What choice is there but to accept his decision with love? So Armand and Albert pretend to be very straight by attempting to play out the roles of your typical heteronormative ‘husband’ and ‘wife’.
Of course, as they dig themselves deeper into the deception, the funnier the situations become!
