The Mercury Theatre and Colchester Borough Council are celebrating following the announcement that they have secured an award of £864,000 from Arts Council England as an investment in Colchester that will enable the theatre to be completed and re-open following its £10 million Mercury Rising refurbishment project.

December has seen the first of our Christmas Carolling events for seven care homes across Colchester. Adam and Jenna from the Mercury team are attempting to bring warmth and joy to care home residents this Christmas, even while singing outside in the rain to ensure that current guidelines are followed. The first of these concerts has been met with wonderful positivity (and participation!) from the residents of Aveley Lodge Residential Care Home.

In the month of Caption Awareness Week 2020, the Mercury Theatre is delighted to announce that its online streaming of Cinderella next month will be available with closed captions for those who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, or anyone who would like to read (or sing!) along with the action.

Visitors to Colchester’s Culver Square are guaranteed a glittering welcome this Christmas, with the unveiling of a 6m high magical castle, featuring Father Christmas and Rudolph, thanks to a creative partnership between the Mercury Theatre and the management team at Culver Square.
