Protest Photography Competition Announced!

PHOTO COMPETITION landscape

To celebrate their up-coming production of Borders – an urgent, provocative play about a British photo-journalist – the Mercury Theatre are launching their first ever photography competition.

The winner will receive a fully paid photography session taking the publicity images of their brand new show as well as exposure on the Mercury’s social media pages.

This is an exciting opportunity for a budding amateur or a professional photographer to gain experience photographing a professional production in an unusual, beautiful site-specific location.

Entrants must submit a photograph under the theme of Protest – this could be an image of a public demonstration, some graffiti art or a crowd taking to the streets to stand up to injustices. The Mercury will accept any images that capture a moment of Protest.

Send your entries to [email protected] by Thursday 12th March at 5pm, along with a line about where and why you took that image*.

The winner will be notified on Friday 13th March and will be paid a one off fee of £250 on completion of the work, via invoice.

All photographs taken during this shoot will be usable by the theatre indefinitely and the photographer will be credited when their image is used publicly on Mercury platforms.

Borders by award-winning playwright, Henry Naylor, will be performed at The Old Library in Colchester from Thursday 19 – Saturday 28 March. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here, calling us on 01206 573948 or by visiting Mercury Tickets in Red Lion Yard.

*Please note, photographs submitted MUST be your own work. The winner of this competition must be free to take production photography on Thursday 19th March at 2pm and must be able to provide their own equipment for the shoot (cameras will not be provided).
