Abbey Field Centre
The Abbey Field Centre - also known as the former Garrison Gym - is a flexible, light and welcoming creative building in the heart of Colchester's Garrison community.
Welcome to the Abbey Field Centre
Please note: In adherence with current government guidelines, the Abbey Field Centre remains closed, and we now estimate that the building will not be open for hires again prior to 1st Aug 2020. We will be closely monitoring any changes in government guidance and will update this page as soon as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The Abbey Field Centre is a flexible creative space consisting of office space, green room, kitchen, meeting room, and the enormous Make It Space which is the base for the Mercury’s year-round Creative Learning & Talent programme, as well as rehearsals for our in-house Made in Colchester productions.
The Mercury Theatre are proud to be the first tenants of this building in the heart of the Garrison and Shrub End communities. The building was refurbished by Colchester Borough Council following a major fire in 2013. The Mercury will be resident at the Abbey Field Centre until the Summer of 2020.
